5 Fall Recipes To Help You Transition Out of Summer
The temperature has dropped ever so slightly outside, which means we can start making our favorite fall dishes as we transition into the colder months. While summer is great, fall brings cozy decorations, the falling of leaves, and a nice breeze in the air you just can't get any other time. Recipes packed with fall flavors are a great addition to the cooling weather outside. Whether you crave a slight hint of pumpkin, the cozy notes of cinnamon, or the warmth of soup season each night, these five recipes have a little bit of everything.
Southern Living's Chicken-And-Biscuit Pot Pie
Chicken and biscuits is a cozy Southern classic, and Southern Living has combined it with a pot pie! They took the traditional chicken pot pie and topped it with biscuits adding a twist to two very delicious dishes. The total time to prepare on their website is one hour yielding six servings. You’ll only need to grab a few things from the store— butter, yellow onion, carrots, celery, fresh green beans, all-purpose flour, chicken broth, chicken breasts, fresh parsley and thyme, salt, pepper, and last but certainly an important component, the frozen buttermilk biscuits.
Their website provides a full “how to” for the recipe, making things easy and quick for you while cooking.
Taste of Home's Pumpkin Bisque with Smoked Gouda
Pumpkin is one of those staple flavors you can secretly and elegantly put into any dish to give it an autumn twist. A popular phrase amongst social media is “soup season,” which makes this recipe perfect for this time of year. Taste of Home noted it only takes about 20 minutes of prep work and 35 minutes of cook time, making this a good quick dinner option.
You’ll need bacon, onions, garlic, chicken broth, pumpkin, nutmeg, whipping cream, gouda cheese, and parsley.
All Recipes's Slow Cooker Beef Roast
A slow cooker meal is the go-to for weeknights in the fall. The sun sets earlier and trying to prepare a meal after a long day can get tiring. All Recipes’s slow cooker beef roast has comfort meal written all over it. Another great thing about slow-cooked roasts is the roast usually makes its own gravy, so that already saves you time! All Recipes recommends serving this with green beans and mashed potatoes.
This recipe yields eight servings and requires a bit of planning. Cook time is listed at around eight hours and 15 minutes with prep time only taking 15 minutes.
A Southern Soul's Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes
A potato is so versatile. Truly. You can do just about anything in your dishes with a potato and it works out deliciously. While using russet potatoes makes for a tasty dish, try these twice baked sweet potatoes for an autumn twist. Unlike your usual twice baked potatoes, this potato is filled with butter, sour cream, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and of course, sweet potatoes, for the ultimate fall flavor.
For this recipe, you’ll need about an hour and 20 minutes to complete the entire dish with five minutes of that being prep work. Gather your four sweet potatoes, brown sugar, butter, sour cream, salt, cinnamon, and pecan toppings. Dinner is almost served!
Southern Living's Slow Cooker Taco Soup
We are ending our list with one more Southern Living recipe. Who doesn’t love taco soup? And in our slow cookers? Yes, please. This slow cooker taco soup only takes about four hours and makes enough for eight to ten people. This soup is a fun way to spice up your Taco Tuesdays or for a no-stress weekend meal when you don’t feel like prepping a lot of food.
