Baton Rouge has its share of live music, but some nights call for a drive west on I-10. In downtown Lafayette, the Blue Moon Saloon & Guest House at 215 E. Convent St. has been pairing roots music with a place to sleep it off for 25 years.
From Back Porch to Honky-Tonk
The saloon opened in April 2001 on the back porch of the Blue Moon Guest House. The house itself has moved around: it was hauled several blocks in 1900, with mules and logs, to make way for downtown's Gordon Hotel, and it has served as a family home and a flower shop before becoming a guest house. Today the venue bills itself as a home for roots music from around the world, with Cajun music at the center.
Wednesday Is Cajun Jam Night
The easiest night to plan around is Cajun Jam, which the venue advertises every Wednesday starting at 8 p.m. Happy hour runs from 5 to 8 p.m. that night, with:
$3 Crown and $3 Jameson
$4 local beers
$5 double wells
The saloon's live music calendar is listed as coming soon, so check its website or socials for weekend shows before you go.
Stay Upstairs
The guest house offers rooms in a restored 125-year-old Acadian home, from single rooms like The Bois Sec Room and The Bird's Nest to a bungalow or the whole house. Overnight guests get free entry to the saloon and their first drink on the house. Check-in is contactless, handled by text on arrival day.
Book online or call (337) 234-2422. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice, and festival weekends like Festivals Acadiens carry stricter terms.
