Shopping trips to Tanger Outlets and Cabela's now have a better ending in Gonzales. Hanbat Korean Restaurant is open at 3005 W. Cabela's Parkway, Suite A, a short hop off I-10.
Built for first-timers and regulars alike
Hanbat's stated goal is simple: a Korean restaurant where every guest feels welcome, whether the food is familiar or brand new. The menu leans into that, with clear descriptions and a staff that will help you choose. The team also asks diners to mention allergies before ordering, since sauces and broths can hide ingredients.
The dining room has natural wood, soft lighting and flexible seating. That makes it easy to settle into a weekday lunch or pull tables together for a bigger group.
What to order
Starters run from fried dumplings ($8.95) and corn cheese ($8) to spicy tteokbokki rice cakes ($14.95) and a seafood pancake ($19.95). Bibimbap starts at $15.95, or $17.95 in a sizzling hot stone bowl. There's also jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and cold buckwheat naengmyeon.
From the grill and wok, look for beef bulgogi ($22.95), grilled pork belly ($23.95), soy garlic pork belly and LA galbi short ribs ($31.95). Soups and stews are a cold-weather lineup: soft tofu stew ($16.95), pork kimchi stew, beef bone broth and pork neckbone stew.
Bringing a crowd? The Hanbat Specials section is built for sharing. It includes bossam, sweet and sour pork and hot pots for two, from budae jjigae (Korean army stew) to bulgogi and kimchi hot pots.
The lunch move
At lunch, the special combo is $24.95. Pick one item from each side of the menu: a stew or cold noodles, plus bulgogi, spicy pork, stir-fried chicken or a fried pork cutlet. To drink, there's soju, makgeolli rice wine, Korean beer and Milkis.
Hanbat serves lunch 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are noon to 9 p.m., and it's closed Sunday. Call 225-450-2096 for reservations or pickup.
The outlet bags can wait in the car. The soft tofu stew can't.
