Gumbo for lunch shouldn't take an hour. That's the whole idea behind Off The Hook, and its Walker restaurant puts it right on Walker South Road for anyone in Livingston Parish who wants Cajun cooking without the long wait.
From a Small Thibodaux Building to Walker
Off The Hook opened its first location in 2012 in a 900-square-foot building in Thibodaux. Houma came next, then Gonzales in the summer of 2020 and a Baton Rouge restaurant on Corporate Boulevard in December 2021. The company calls itself a fast-casual brand focused on the flavors of South Louisiana, built on family recipes and a "Real Cajun, Real Fast" promise.
What to Order
The menu reads like a South Louisiana greatest-hits list:
Louisiana signatures: chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish etouffee, red beans and rice, and roast beef with rice and gravy
Po-boys on 7-inch Leidenheimer French bread, including fried Gulf shrimp, catfish, smothered roast beef and hot honey shrimp
Bowls like the Cajun Shrimp Bowl with Tabasco pepper jelly sauce and the Catfish Acadiana Bowl topped with etouffee
Lagniappe such as swamp fries, fried green beans and boudin balls made with Best Stop boudin
You can add crawfish etouffee to any po-boy. There's also a kids' menu, and grilled seafood, chicken, salads and bowls for lighter appetites. Dessert includes bread pudding bites with pecans and rum sauce.
