Five falafel on a plate tell you most of what you need to know about Starbox Falafel. They come crisp and golden, built from chickpeas, fresh herbs and Arabic spices, with tahini sauce and pickled vegetables on the side.
The family-owned kitchen sits at 4353 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd. and keeps long hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. According to the restaurant, its recipes have been passed down through generations, and everything from wraps to sides is made fresh daily.
Start with the falafel, then branch out
The classic order runs $8.81 for five pieces. Two twists are worth a look: stuffed falafel filled with onions and tomatoes, and a shrimp-stuffed version. Kibbeh, grape leaves, samosas and lentil soup round out the starters.
The dips list goes deeper than hummus. Look for baba ganoush, musababa with eggplant and pomegranate syrup, fava bean stew, shakshouka and mfewareg, sauteed potatoes with coriander seeds and pomegranate.
Plates built for a big appetite
Sandwiches cover beef and chicken shawarma, gyro, falafel and keftah kebab. For a full meal, plates come with three sides and pita. Choices include a combo shawarma plate, steak or chicken kabob, tilapia or salmon with shrimp, and lamb shanks or lamb chops. Seven salads, from fattoush to tabbouleh, come with pita too.
Save room for the sweet side
Starbox also works as a dessert stop. The menu lists crepes and waffles topped with Nutella, pistachio, Oreo or fresh fruit, plus milkshakes and a Dubai chocolate cup. Fresh juices include carrot, mango and an orange, carrot and ginger blend, along with tamer hindi.
Swing by for a late shawarma plate or split a pistachio crepe after dinner. Call (225) 256-6641 or check the full menu at starboxfalafels.com before you go.
