Lafayette's Moncus Park is throwing a free holiday party with twinkly lights, live music and ice sledding, and it's an easy road trip from Baton Rouge. Christmas in the Park returns Dec. 18-20, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. each night, and admission is free for everyone.
The Lineup
Each night brings a different headliner:
Friday, Dec. 18: The Skyliners Big Band, an 18-piece swing band
Saturday, Dec. 19: Corey Ledet & Black Magic with guests Gracie Babineaux, Louie Michot, Mike Dopsie and Nathan Williams
Sunday, Dec. 20: A Christmas movie on the big screen, with the Lafayette Shrimpettes and New Natives Brass Band roaming the park
What the Kids Will Love
Sneauxville offers free ice sledding down the hill, and the fun jumps and Bubble Bus are free too. The Christmas Train Station costs $10 per rider. There's also Santa's Workshop with letters to Santa, a building block zone, a sensory zone and photos with Santa. S'mores are $5 for a set of two, and hot cocoa is a $5 fundraiser.
Grown-ups get a bar with holiday cocktails, beer and wine, the Merry Market for artisan gifts, and more than a dozen food trucks in two spots around the park.
Parking and Tips
On-site parking is $20, and that money goes back into the park. Enter from the south off Johnston Street. To skip the fee, park free at Blackham Coliseum, 2330 Johnston St., and take the free shuttle, which starts at 5 p.m. each night.
The event happens rain or shine. Leave pets and ice chests at home, and bring both cash and cards.
Can't Wait Until December 18?
The Lafayette Farmers & Artisans Market holds its Christmas Market at Moncus Park on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. You'll find local vendors, live music from The Magnolia Sisters, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
