City Pork provides the perfect spot for a tasty bite to eat with multiple locations around Baton Rouge, including Highland, Jefferson, and LSU’s campus. Their menu contains many food options, and I chose our top three to share with you. If you’re looking for a good lunch spot, here are some of their standout sandwiches and some appetizers if you feel like splurging.

Appetizers

Boudin Balls

If you are looking for something familiar but with a bit of a twist, City Pork’s boudin balls are the perfect appetizer. The dish has three large boudin balls on top of a remoulade sauce garnished with pickled onions, sweet pickles, and pickled jalapeños. The sweetness of the pickled ingredients balances perfectly with the savory flavors of the boudin.

City Pork Nachos

It’s in the name, so obviously the City Pork Nachos are a must for an appetizer with their house chips, queso, coleslaw, jalepeño, and BBQ sauce. Even better news is that if you aren’t feeling pork, you can always swap it out with their brisket.

Wild Boar Flautas

If you’re feeling really crazy and want to go all in on the “pig” theme, the wild boar flautas are the appetizer for you. Braised wild boar, smoked avocado creme, smoked cheddar, pickled onions, and micro cilantro, all rolled into a tortilla, is perfect to start with before you eat your main dish.

Sandwiches

The Cubano

This is totally biased because it is my favorite item on the menu but City Pork’s cubano never misses (which I have tested at each location and still have not been disappointed). The restaurant takes on a classic Cuban mix with pulled pork, ham, Swiss, house pickles, mojo sauce, and dijon mustard all pressed onto Cuban bread. You can pair it with their usual side of chips (my go-to) or trade that out for fries. If you’re feeling frisky (and of age), pair this with a Sage Advice season cocktail containing tequila, pomegranate liqueur, sage honey syrup, lime, and ginger beer for a refreshing beverage.

BLT and City Club

If you’re not in the mood for anything too crazy and want something simple but good, City Pork’s BLT or their City Club is the perfect option. Both sandwiches take on a classic lunch vibe that is not too heavy and always hits the spot. The BLT takes a twist by swapping wheat or white bread with Texas toast, and the City Club is packed to the fullest with every ingredient. Pair either one of these menu items with the City Pork Tea (you better be 21) for the perfect summer lunch.

Pork Belly Hoagie

Now, if you’re definitely in the mood for something heavier and want to eat outside the box a little bit, the Pork Belly Hoagie might be the sandwich for you. Coffee braised pork belly, house bacon, mustard greens, smoked cheddar, and mayonnaise stacked onto Cuban bread make this a flavorful menu option.

Both City Pork locations are home to more than just great sandwiches, appetizers, and cocktails. You can find notable breakfast items, dinner plates, salads, and more. Take time this summer to check out either restaurant. See their hours posted here
