Laissez les bons temps rouler,” right? King Cake Drive-Thru is hitting the road for Mardi Gras season and is stopping in the capital city on Saturday, January 25, at Rally Cap Brewing.

We are positive you have already tasted the purple, gold, and green cake we know and love here in Louisiana this season. Prepare yourself for more. King Cake Drive-Thru is bringing New Orleans king cakes to BR. DIG spoke with owner and founder Mike Graves about the upcoming road trip.

“We know Baton Rouge likes to party, and we want to bring the party to them while showcasing some of the best king cakes Nola has to offer,” Graves said.

King Cake Drive-Thru did a few travel events last year, making stops in Meridian and Houston, but this is their first time stopping in Baton Rouge.

“[Our travel events] started because we wanted to bring a slice of Mardi Gras to cities where people love to celebrate carnival (slice pun intended),” said Graves.

The crew just stopped in Bay St. Louis, which means Baton Rouge is up next on January 25. They will stop in Houston, Lafayette, Meridian, and Atlanta this season. Graves shared how he plans to curate the event pop-up menu, and we think Baton Rouge residents will be excited to try a taste of Nola Carnival.

“I’ll be picking up cakes from various bakeries, hitting the road early, and providing a taste of New Orleans to BR,” said Graves.

From Chicago to New Orleans

King Cake Drive-Thru originated in New Orleans by Graves, Chicago-born turned Nola resident, and his wife Tiffany Langlinais. The couple saw a need for king cake convenience and used their love for all things Nola to make it possible.

“I fell in love with New Orleans during college,” Graves said. His family would visit during the fall. “I met this nice old man on the streetcar who was asking me about which restaurants I was going to, etc. Being a cynical Chicago south sider, I figured he was trying to ask me for something and gave short answers. At the end of the conversation, he tipped his cap and went about his day. My world was altered that strangers would be so nice for no reason.”

After Graves’s encounter, he loved the city and visited frequently over the years. Eventually, sick of being a lawyer and the Chicago cold weather, he made the move to New Orleans where he met his wife and business partner Tiffany.

“It was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else,” Graves added.

King Cakes, but Make It Convenient

Located at 1009 Metairie Rd., in the Duckworth Tires parking lot, they began their second season on January 10 after King’s Day. During Mardi Gras, many residents know that acquiring their favorite king cake flavor from a bakery can be a journey. Graves and Langlinais wanted to change that for New Orleans residents.

“We wanted to make a super convenient way to get king cakes. If you don’t want to take your kids out of the car, if you don’t want to deal with driving to these bakeries before they sell out, or if you don’t like being in crowds, we’ve got you covered,” Graves said.

While Graves hits the road, Langlinais is staying back to ensure the New Orleans drive-thru still runs. So, Nola residents, you’ll still get your king cake fix.

Their menu is evolving and features different bakeries each weekend. King Cake Drive-Thru stays current on their Instagram, announcing weekend menus, flavors, and bakeries they’ll carry. Hours are Friday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., or until sold out. The drive-thru is a cashless venue, so bring a card or tap to pay for payment. And, if you don’t have a car, no problem! They welcome walk-ups.

Mark your calendars for January 25, and head to Rally Cap Brewing, located at 11212 Pennywood Ave., to pick up your taste of New Orleans Mardi Gras. The exact time and menu will be released on their Instagram closer to the event pop-up, so visit it for updates. Click here for more BR news.
