Port Allen, Brusly and the rest of the west bank are getting their own spin on Small Business Saturday. The West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce is running Shop Small First, a holiday-season campaign built to send shoppers to locally owned storefronts and pop-up vendors across the parish, and the big day is Saturday, Nov. 28.
How the day works
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 28, shoppers pick up a Bingo Card and work their way around participating West Baton Rouge businesses. Each shop on the card is a stop, so the day plays out like a scavenger hunt with gift shopping built in. Some businesses will also post a deal or giveaway on the Shop Small First website ahead of time, which is worth checking before you plan a route.
Where the pop-ups will be
Businesses without a storefront will set up at host locations around the parish:
Brian's Furniture, 515 Court St., Port Allen
Mingle, 4253 La. Hwy. 1 S, Port Allen
Studio Too, Casa Loma Shopping Center, 4159 La. Hwy. 1 S, Port Allen
Salad Station, 309 S. Vaughn Drive, Brusly
The Barn Erwinville, 12675 U.S. 190, Port Allen
Keep an eye out for a traveling art structure by local artist Ellen Ogden, which will make visits to Chamber member storefronts as a photo stop.
It doesn't stop after Saturday
The campaign runs the whole fourth quarter. Promotion builds from Nov. 1 through Nov. 27, and spotlights continue from Nov. 28 through Dec. 31, so the listings stay useful for last-minute Christmas shopping too.
Own a WBR business?
Registration is open to storefronts and pop-up vendors, Chamber members or not. The fee is $40 for members and $50 for non-members, and the deadline to sign up is Nov. 10. Questions go to the West Baton Rouge Chamber at 225-256-1403.
Cross the bridge, grab a card and fill it up. Your holiday list and your neighbors' shops will both come out ahead.
