Third Street has plenty of bars, but only one of them introduces itself as Mother. Mothers Lounge, at 143 3rd St. in downtown Baton Rouge, describes itself as a queer lounge operated by queer people, for queer people, and its weekly calendar is built for regulars who like a reason to come back every night.
Tuesday through Friday: happy hour
From 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, espresso martinis are $7, and so is a list of classics: dirty martini, margarita, mojito, Moscow mule, Aperol spritz, old fashioned, French 75 and a seasonal smash.
Tuesday: Tan's Taco Tuesday
All day Tuesday, tacos are $4. Pick from steak with chimichurri, pulled pork with coleslaw, or Southwest chicken with a black bean and corn blend and jalapeno lime crema, all finished with pickled onion or crispy onion strings and cotija. House margaritas are $7 and tequila shots are $4.
Wednesday: Buns Out
From 5 to 10 p.m., burgers are $5 and the Mac Daddy, dressed with house burger sauce, is $7. Mixed shots and Jameson are $4 each.
Thursday: Poppin' Bingo
Bingo is free to play, and the lounge promises a prize for every win. Domestic beers are $1 off, Skyy vodka doubles are $5, and a lineup of shots runs $3.
Friday and the first Saturday: drag
Fridays bring Jewelry Box: A Regal Drag Revue, featuring Santana A. Savage and a special guest. Doors open at 5 p.m., the DJ starts at 9, and shows are at 10:30 and 11:30 p.m. On the first Saturday of each month, Savage Saturday follows the same idea with shows at 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Sunday: Clay's Karaoke
Karaoke starts at 8 p.m., with $4 mimosas and $5 double wells.
The food menu leans on shared plates and charcuterie, so a happy hour stop can easily turn into dinner. Call 225-256-4438 or check the lounge's calendar before you go, then pick a night and bring your friends.
