Few menus in Baton Rouge are as much fun to read as the one at Red Zeppelin Pizza. Nearly every pie is a song cue, and even the build-your-own section invites you to pile toppings up to the stairway to heaven.

A Perkins Road slice since 2010

Red Zeppelin has been serving pizza, calzones, salads and sandwiches on Perkins Road since 2010, and it pitches itself to LSU fans as a slice shop for Tiger Nation. Find it at 4395 Perkins Rd., where the kitchen runs seven days a week and the outdoor patio is available for your next get-together.

The greatest hits

Specialty pizzas cost $15.99 for a 10-inch, $21.99 for a 14-inch and $25.99 for a 16-inch. The house signature is The Mothership, a thin, crisp pie loaded with pepperoni, ground beef, Italian sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, red onion and green olives. Whole Lotta Love pairs chicken, spinach, sun-dried tomato and feta on a garlic olive oil base, while Al-Freddie Mercury layers Genoa salami, whole roasted garlic and roasted red peppers on alfredo.

For the most Louisiana order on the list, try the Bou-Ray: alligator sausage, tasso ham, red onion and jalapeño served over boudin. Back in Black, Heartbreaker and Great Balls of Fire round out the set list.

Deals and deep cuts

Build-your-own cheese pizzas start at $7.99 for a 10-inch. Zeppwiches, sandwiches folded inside a 10-inch pizza crust, are $9.49 every day, in versions like The Greek with baked hummus and beef. At lunch, slices are $5.50 each, or get a small two-topping pizza and side salad for $12.49. During happy hour, a 14-inch cheese pizza is $8, plus $2.25 per topping.

Calzones like the Red Rooster ($10.50) and a warm Half Baked Cookie a la mode ($5.99) are worth saving room for.
