Holiday gift lists get easier when the gift is alive. Baton Rouge Succulent Co. at 7276 Highland Road is a plant shop packed with succulents, cacti, air plants and houseplants, plus the pots, planters and terrariums to put them in.

More than plants

The shop also makes dried floral arrangements and handcrafted dried floral wreaths built from preserved blooms, branches and natural textures like eucalyptus, strawflowers and lavender. They need no watering, which makes them an easy hostess gift for Thanksgiving. Wreaths are listed at $75, and the current lineup includes an LSU version for the game day crowd.

For people who like to make things, the shop sells DIY kits: a succulent garden kit at $45, fairy garden and dinosaur garden kits at $35, a dried floral wreath kit at $40 and moss art kits starting at $25. Gift cards are available too.

Plant Club

The Plant Club is a monthly subscription box at $20. Each box holds a seasonal mix of plants worth $20, either several small pots or one large plant, along with care guides. Boxes ship by Priority Mail around the 15th of each month, with heat packs added when the weather calls for it.

Workshops and private events

The shop runs public classes, and ticket holders get 20 percent off plants and pots on class day. The adults-only Intro to Stained Glass class on Sunday, Nov. 8 has already sold out, so keep an eye on the workshop page for new dates.

Groups can book a private event for a team outing, birthday or girls' night. Popular picks include the signature succulent garden class and a Desert-Scape cactus version, both starting at $55 per person, plus a dried floral wreath class.
