The Red Stick Farmers Market is Firing Up the Grill for a Memorial Day Community Cookout
Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and the Baton Rouge Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance (BREADA) is celebrating the best way it knows how — with fresh local food, community spirit, and plenty of flavor at the Red Stick Farmers Market Memorial Day Cookout.
On Thursday, May 21, the vendors of the Red Stick Farmers Market will fire up the grills for a special Memorial Day Cookout celebration designed to showcase the incredible variety of fresh, locally sourced ingredients available each week at the market.
Guests can expect a morning packed with free samples from local farmers and food vendors featuring everything from locally raised meats and fresh tacos to homemade sides, sweet treats, and seasonal bites perfect for summer gatherings. Whether you are looking for inspiration for your Memorial Day barbecue or simply want to spend the morning supporting local businesses, this event is shaping up to be one of the tastiest ways to kick off the holiday weekend.
The cookout will give shoppers the opportunity to meet the farmers, makers, and food vendors behind the products while exploring all the ingredients needed to create the ultimate backyard spread. Fresh produce, locally sourced proteins, ready-to-eat favorites, and handcrafted goods will all be available throughout the market.
Beyond the food, the event is designed to celebrate Louisiana’s local food community and create a fun, family-friendly atmosphere where visitors can stroll the market, sample dishes, and enjoy a Thursday morning filled with great flavors and community connection.
The Memorial Day Cookout takes place from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, May 21, behind the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at 6400 Perkins Road. Organizers recommend entering from Irene Drive off Kenilworth Parkway for the easiest access.
